 Post subject: Best Tune for Mileage

Just got my SC Flashpag last night, loaded the towing/performance this afternoon. Just was wondering what the best tune was for mileage. The truck is a daily driver for work, about 800mi a week, has cap with tools in back, maybe 1,000 pounds and 2 guys. Hardly ever sees a trailer if it does it is only 4,000 pounds max. But am not against changing tune level if best tune is performance tune. Thanks for any Input. :)

I updated the flashpaq SW today and it pops up a survey about a "economy tune" good thought there. Loks like a future and extra charge thing.

I had once asked support via email about which of the three current modes was best economy. I got a cryptic answer back ... anyone know a straight answer??

Feedback from our customers say that if you are not towing the HP setting usually gives you the best fuel economy. Because the more hp and torque a vehicle has the less amount of thottle it takes to get to speed, les throttle means less fuel used.

I loaded the performance mode and took a 60 mile drive. I gased it a few times to see how the truck would pass other cars, and to see how it took off from stoplights. Most of the driving was on freeways, not congested. My mileage went up by 2 mpg. It was running at 16 mpg, and went up to 18 mpg. I am very happy with that. :D

I'm going to try the tow mode next. I tow a 12000 LB trailer so we will see how it does in a couple of weeks.

Hey Guys'

I changed my program over to tow mode to check gas mileage and drove down to Los Angeles, which is about 65 to 70 mile south of me. Went down about noon on saturday, medium to heavy traffic. Round trip my mileage increased almost 2.5 mpg. It is amazing that Superchip flashpaq can give you more performance and increase your mileage at the same time. :D

I have an 2006 LBZ CrewCab Dually with an Allison 6 speed. 50,000 miles approx.

I have run every mode for at least 2500 miles each. Stock I was getting about 17.5MPG.
Tow mode seemed to provide no real change in MPG or power.

Performance/Tow gave me 19.4 MPG and the power was definitely noticeable.

Performance was by far the best. 21.1 MPG averaging 60-65 MPH and the power is tremendous.

No, it was not flat or all downhill roads. All done with a combo of everything. Also I was not towing anything at the time.

How many of you are going by the DIC? Just about any tuner is going to throw it off. My DIC, stock is pretty close. When I installed the flashpaq it is about 2 to 2.5 mpg high. For instance-DIC with flashpaq shows 20.5 mpg, hand calculated is 18 or 18.5 mpg.

*Factoid*
The Esti-meter relys on a few factors to come up with the average.

Throttle position (user controlled)
wheel speed (user controlled)
Fuel and timing table (tuner controlled)

With any fuel and timing adjusting products the Esti-meter will be off.
There is no ratio that can be explained without taking in the user controlled factors.

I had been running the highest tune until about a month ago. Thought I would drop down to the mid tune and see what happened. Seems as if I would get almost 1mpg lower on the mid tune, over the high tune.

Towing a 6400 pound Airstream trailer. Get the following fuel mileage.

Stock setting - 13.5/14.0 MPG
Tow setting - 12.5/13.0 MPG

I get better fuel mileage in stock mode when towing my trailer. I am a little disappointed with performance of the SC. What has been your experience using the SC in Tow mode?

I have found I get better mileage on the tow setting over stock, 1-2 mpg, hand calc. I tried the two other settings but did not like the shifts in the 6 speed allison. Superchips claims the trans has to learn but I have about 5k on the tow setting and it does not seem any different than when I installed the tune. It seems to "flair at times because the conv. doesn' t seem to lock up as it should. I have not seen the mpg for towing yet as the camper is winterized.

I have found that all Handhelds will throw the DIC off a little to quite a bit..

I just got through tuning my buddys 01 Dmax/Allison with EFI Live. I have managed to keep his DIC extemely close to the same as hand calcualting. -/+ .2mpg.

Im not sure what most hand helds change to do that.
And all their stuff is a secret anyway... how else you think they stay in buisness.

The DIC or Estimeter, is basing its reading off of instant by.
Wheel speed, Throttle position, and fuel and timing tables to give you a instant estimation.

So when we change the fuel and timing tables, this will throw off the estimeter.
This is not intended, but has been a fact since the arrival of diagnostic port programming.
