So I have been using the 87 tune with noticeable performance, I think mainly because of the improved shifting. I finally ponied up the money for 91 octane today and changed the tune to the 91. I really don't notice any difference at all. Is this typical. I've read that the 4.7 is supposed to come alive with the 91 tune. I can't even spin my tires.

2010 4.7L
87 tune = 38hp and 30ftlbs of torque to the wheels 91 perf = 50hp and 55ftlbs 93 perf = 54hp and 67ftlbs
How many miles have you driven on the 91 tune? How much 87 fuel was in the tank.
I would run the rest of the fuel out and fill up and see what you have. If you do not see a decent difference then put the tuning back to stock for a 40-50 miles. Then reinstall the tuning.

There was about 4 gallons of 89 left in the tank and around here the 89 has 10% ethanol. I have driven about 110 miles with the 91 tune. I don't hear any pinging, can't say that I have ever heard pinging before though.

Just trying to find anything that you could be doing wrong. I do not hear the 09-10 4.7L owners not seeing a big difference with the tuning levels, with this type of gains.

I did what you suggested: ran the tank out and filled again, put it back to stock for 40-50 then back to the 91 tune with not difference.

Post up the tuners serial number and I will have them go over the tuning.
What modifications does the truck have?
Stock size tires?
Where do you live?
What conditions are you driving in? Stop and go traffic? HWY?

I think this is the serial number 1470837 Everything is stock, I live near Lincoln, NE, I do all kinds of driving, I commute at least 15 miles of hwy. each way everyday into the city. When I was using the 91 tune I was commuting 40 each way. I put it back on the 87 tune, I think it runs better with that tune.

There is a difference between stock and 91, but I honestly think the 87 tune has better performance on my truck than the 91. Would this be because I have no other mods? Are there different shifting settings on the 91 and the 87? It just seems to have more power and shift better into 2nd with the 87.

The trans shifts are the same between all the programs except the MXS tune.
It just may be your seat of the pants dyno, likes the 87 tune over the 91 tune. Aslong as you are making power over the stock tuning, that is my concern.
Take into consideration that driving conditions are a major factor in how the power is felt.

Keep in mind too that a roughly 10 hp difference (from 87 tune to 91 tune) may be hard to notice.
I have only tried the 91 and 93 tunes on my truck vs. stock (never tried the 87 tune) and I can tell a huge difference from stock I must say. The difference between 91 to 93 is slightly felt if at all felt. I was running 91 for a while just because, but now switched back to 93 as I have to buy 93 fuel anyway. 4 hp isn't much, but I didn't realize there was such a large torque gain. Less than 20 is hard to tell by the &H dyno IMO. You're making me want to try the 87 tune now...
Ron, I've seen the 91 dyno sheet, but do you happen to have the 87 and 93? I'd love to see them.

Ron, I'm not sure if you saw my last post but do you happen to have the 87 and 93 dyno's? I'd love to see those if you do. Thanks.

I am sorry I do not have a dyno plot for the 87 or the 93 tunes.

I would say try the 87 tune, imo the difference in performance between the 87 and 91 were hardly there with my truck and the savings at the pump are nice.

I would recommend looking into the full blown trans tuning application. That will really spice things up. There's a huge difference when running a custom shift schedule versus the other schedules (Stock or Superchips).
