- 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L (* Diesel
- Superchips Cortex 3950 Serial # 1498129
- Tech support case #: 76920

Tuner was working fine before a trip to the dealership.

Dealer installed new injectors, FCA and PRV. That fixed the problem I took it in for and introduced this new problem. I took it back to them to see if anything was wrong. They could find no problems and said my software was already the latest. I asked them to reflash the software to make sure there were no problems and it flashed without issue. They had no issues, but I still have the problem.

Here's what happens:
1. Plug tuner in with ignition off
2. Navigate to Quick Tune
3. Turn ignition on and press OK to prompts
4. Tuner flashes blank screen for .5 seconds and then comes back with initializing.
5. Screen blanks again 4-5 times
6. Cannot Detect Ignition error is displayed. There are no error codes, just that message.

I have also tried identifying vehicle and get the same results.

Ron you have any ideas on this?

We are going to try something.

Update the tuner and try it again, we have reverted the update.

If this does not work, then it will need to come back for a repair.

Updated the tuner as suggested and tried again. No such luck. I also tried to connect my Can ODB-II scanner to the truck and it cannot connect. This leads me to believe something may be wrong with the ECM or the dealer has flashed it with some sort of lock-out like they did on the 6.7s.

What are your thoughts?

I do not think it is a software change.

If your aftermarket scan tool, can not communicate. I would suggest to talk to get it resolved . They can not lock you out on purpose.

Or start by tracing the wiring from the port to the harnes, make sure their is no breaks or cuts.

Is there anything added to the truck wired to the ignition or to acc power that is not factory? Alarm, remote start, breathalizer, CB, Winch, PTO, or other brand of tuning product in line?

I took it to the dealer and they reflashed the ECM with no issues. They said it's probably something wrong with my scan tools. :( They called Innova and said they claimed I needed a firmware update. I called Innova and they said there are no updates for my scan-tool. They weren't very helpful, but did offer to replace/repair the scan tool. However, since neither the scan tool nor the Cortex can connect, I don't think it's the devices. Must be something with the truck??

I pulled the OBD-II port down and traced the wires back to the harness which is all of about 6 inches. There's no cuts, tears or breaks. The harness routes up through the dash and off into never-never land. Don't think I'll be tearing into that ever. All of this worked fine before the software update. I also checked all of the fuses in the TIPM. All were fine.

I have a Prodigy P3 brake controller plugged into the factory harness and a Quadzilla Scout II monitor that plugs into the OBD-II port. The brake controller has always been plugged in while tuning the truck with the Cortex. The Scout II has no troubles reading DTCs or detecting rail pressure, engine load, transmission temp, etc. It doesn't have a "connect sequence" though. It just turns on and reads. I have no other modifications. The truck is a Laramie.

Being that you are the ONLY one with this type of issue, I am lead to believe that this is a hardware issue.

BUT, if you want to send it in or try it on another vehicle you can confirm its operation.

Thanks Ron, tried it on another vehicle last night. I was able to connect, identify and even tune it. It's definitely something related to the truck. It's got to either be a bad ECM or Chrysler figured out how to lock me out. I'm betting on bad ECM.

I will ask around, and if I see one I will let you know.
