I recently installed and have been running the 87 octane tune on my '05 WK Hemi for about two weeks now. I immediately noticed an increase in throttle response, shifting pattern was improved and shifts were raised about 1000 rpm over stock. Overall it felt like a rocket compared to stock.
I then updated the tuner, hooked it up to disable mds and now the jeep is back to sluggish shifts and poor throttle response that I had with the stock tune. I set it back to stock to confirm and it is exactly the same as the 87 tune(even with the mds on). I am back to running the mds on with the 87 tune currently and it is driving as stock would, not like the first 87 tune. What happened and can I just go back to the tune I had before?
Thanks in advance,
Sean

Also I should mention that the axle lock, and a few other options have disappeared from the tuner.

Whats the tuners serial number?
Have you added any aftermarket products to the truck since then? Or been back to a dealer in that time frame.

Ron Ron, thanks for the speedy response. Only engine mods I have are a Volant Cai and Gibson 3" catback. I had those long before the first tune though. No visit to the dealer either. This literally happened last night after my first use of the tuner after updating it for the first time. The serial number is 1453440.

A little more info on my jeep if it helps. I do have a lift and am running 285/70/17 tires(33's). I have the tune set back to stock per a tech support rep I talked to on the phone today so the pcm relearns stock parameters for 75 miles. I don't understand how when I installed the 87 tune the first time, it instantly felt like a whole 'nother animal. I also ran the 87 tune w/89 octane. Now the 87 tune feels stock and sluggish throttle response as well as stock shifting.
Any ideas Ron?

Fuel quality and learning time are the factors that I would hit on, next. Run the truck for the next 50-75 miles on the 87 tune and then remove the tuning for 10-15miles, see what we miss.
Did you get fuel anywhere around the time frame that you are feeling this.

Ron I know its not the fuel. I drove it the whole day with the original 87 tune and it was flawless. Installed the tune after update that night and it was instantly back to stock shift points and increased torque management, as well as stock throttle response. All of which would point to the tuner. Fuel level was at half tank. Like I mentioned earlier, when I first installed the 87 tune it was instant throttle response change and improved shift points. Is there anyway I can get my tuner to the point it was before the update?

After we can confirm that this is the real problem.
If I bring this info to the engineers, this is exactly what they are going to ask for prior to looking at the issue.
This is not something that I see very often, maybe a hand full of times.
This is just a process of elimination.

Ron Understandable. What should I be doing in the meantime? Running the stock tune, like I am currently or switch back to the 87 tune?

Update: I ran the stock tune for the weekend for about 80 miles. My scan tool had read all parameters run. Tonight I uploaded the 87 tune with mds off and tire size adjusted. The only thing that worked is the tire size adjustment and the mds is now off. Throttle response is stock as well as the shifting. What now can I do to get the old 87 tune back before I updated it. Can we just remove the update?

I found your issue in our system, and we recommended a process to perform. Did we perform this?
"return to stock, turn key off for 30 sec, reprogram jeep, turn key off for 30 sec, turn key on plug tuner in clear DTC's, turn key off for 30 sec then start jeep ready to go"

I have done that. Again no change. Very disappointed in the updated tuner. I just want it the way it was before the update.

Ron Hey Ron, I performed the procedure listed above again tonight w/the 87 tune, still no change. I also tried running the Mileage XS tune and again the jeep drove as stock. I had received an email from a Robert Kurtz w/you guys that stated since the hemi requires 89 octane, running the 87 tune backs off timing in certain areas to avoid pinging and that I wouldn't see any real gains regarding hp or tq. After talking to a tech rep, she stated that the 87 tune adds 15.5hp/27ft. lbs. and the 91 perf. tune adds 24hp/27.5ft. lbs.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the 87 tune reduce Torque management some thus increasing shift pressure? Also throttle response is increased as well on the 87 tune correct? Just wanna make sure I'm not losing my mind, lol. I can believe the 87 tune numbers since I experienced it before the tune update. Can you just remove the updated file so I can re-install the old 87 tune? So far the only thing working is the mds removal and the tire size update. No tune is effective and the jeep is driving as stock. Thanks in advance, Sean
