So I installed the superchips software last night, excellent improvement. Drove it to work and let my bro drive it. He short shifted to third at a low rpm and rolled in to it, and I heard some knock. Nowcoming from an MAzdaspeed3, any knock means almost certain that you where now sitting on a ticking time bomb, with rods regularly coming out of blocks because of it. How worried should I be? I have 93 octane in it, and for the first time in weeks, it's semi cold here (57).

Is the car modified?

Is the tuner up to date?

Stock wheels?

What kind of low rpms? under 1500?

Does it knock for you? How many miles did the car have the tuning installed?

It's not a Ford brother is a GM. Mazda/ford motors are not that strong......

These motors are used in alot of drag cars.

I wasn't driving at the time, but I believe some where between 1500 and 2000 rpms. There where aprox 1200 miles on it at the time. Now has about 1350 on it. Driving on 95 last night at 60 mph and I believe 2000 rpms or so, I would accel to about 80, not flooring it, but still boosting to about 15psi. No knock heard. I'm not sure if my brother at the time had it pinned or not.

The car is still learning the new power.
50-75 miles and the tune should be set with your driving habits.

Great. Thank you.
On another note, and this may be pure coincidence, but since putting the tune in sometimes when absolutely dead stopped, I seem to lose power steering. I know it's electric. If I start rolling at all it seems to return and it doesn't lose it all the time, just once in a while. Do you know of any way to recalibrate the steering? No codes are thrown, and it's fine whenever I am driving. Just when dead stopped

No the tuning would not have anything to do with the steering.
I have heard of a TSB for a issue with the steering from GM.

I would take the tuning out and see if it is doing it on the stock tune.

I think I found out the answer on the cobalt forums. Basically wide high friction tires on a high friction surface and the system realizes this and won't boost the steering until you are rolling, otherwise it could over heat itself.
But before I knew this I popped the neg off the battery trying to reset the steering. Does the car need to relearn itself again?

If you remove voltage, or reprogram the computer, this will reset the learned driving habits and the car will need to relearn.
