I bought my flashpaq the same week I bought my 2006 (* Ram. It sure would have been nice for consumers altho it may have stunted sales to be truthful about not having an extreme mode. That off my chest, I would like to address the overhead mileage readout discrepancy that appears when tuning is installed. In factory stock mode, I get about 15.5 running around town and my overhead & hand calcs agree. When I install Superchip performance mode overhead will go as high as 23.9 but actual is about 20 at best. Also passenger side air goes to vent only mode when flashpaq installed and has driven dealer crazy. Any other folks out there with same probs?

With Any brand of programmer on the market the mileage meter can be off. We are changing fuel and timing the computer on the truck, based on wheels speed and throttle position. The computer averages and comes up with mile to gallon.
This is a average so we have no control over this.

As for the extreme program we have the tune now, it is not safe in its current form. We are working on making it safe for stock parts on the trucks.
We are commited to make a safe Extreme program.

I just ordered my SuperChips FlashPaq tuner, and I am worried about the a/c problems both of you are having. Is the problem only in the performance mode or is it in both settings? I will use tow/safe as my primary setting. Does Superchips have a fix for the problem via a program update?

Probably just a coincidence. There have been numerous AC problems with CTD's due to design of evaporator. Also orificice in liquid line is undersized. Check out the (* Diesel Forum. Got a feeling Superchip program is not at fault due to the problem remaining whether program is installed or not.

Thanks for the input on the A/C problems, but i have one more question. The main reason for me ordering the Flashpaq was to increase my mileage. What did your mileage increase too on the tow setting or if any?

Thanks for your input.

They did a pretty good job there. One note, don't believe your overhead mileage readout. I run mine in performance mode and average about 16.5- 18 in mixed driving. It has been as much as 20 on road. My overhead will read as high as 24 on the highway. The program is obviously adding fuel that the computer is not aware of. To optomize mileage, good quality fuel, a good free flowing intake, which I see you have, coupled with adding a quart of 2 cycle oil to tank at fillup will do wonders. Also insuring tire pressure is 60 psi or greater, depending on load, will have a dramatic effect. Other improvements, though hard to recoup expense, are bed covers, synthetic lubricants, ram air systems and water, propane or hydrogen injection systems. Also each vehicle has a speed that will deliver the best range per pound of fuel. Mine seems to like 75 mph.

I'm sorry but we did not tune the A/C, LOL thats the first I have heard of this.

Pull the tuning out for a week to seperate the product, see if it still happens without the tuning.

I have not got my 3805 yet, should be here Thursday, but I was wondering if I could install the tow setting and leave it sort of speaking. I just want to program my truck once and not have to reprogram it unless I have take back for service. I do mostly daily hwy driving, but I do tow at least every other weekend. The weight ranges from 17000 to 12000 on a gooseneck tailer. Should I not use the tow setting from superchips when I am towing? I am worried that my egt will get to high and I will not know it unless I install a egt gauge which I dont want to do. If I have to install a gauge to use the tow setting then this programmer will be worthless for me because I could have went with either bully dog or edge since they ofter built in guages and defueling functions. If the tow setting is not safe compared to stock it should be removed from programmers, because not everyone wants to install and watch EGT temps. I just want a little more fuel ecomony and maybe a little more horsepower, but what I want most of all is not to damge my engine. Dang trucks cost to much to destory.

As long as you are pulling up to the limits of the truck and not exceeding them then no you do not need a gauge. But if you are overloading the truck we do not reecommend using our product. EGT's will be your biggest problem with whos ever product you use.

And yes you can use the towsafe setting all the time without returning back to stock.

What does adding a quart of 2 cycle oil to tank at fillup do? I am not knowlegable in the field of engines and automotive stuff and would like to know the reasons why this helps. I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 quad cab Big Horn edition with the (* engine.

The addition of a quart of 2 cycle oil @ fill-up increases fuel lubricity. This makes injector & lift pump work more efficiently. In addition, my truck is extremely quiet and gets 2mpg more with addition of oil. With declining sulfur content at the pump & more reductions soon to come, I think this is a pretty cheap insurance policy for good continued pump operation.

ed8249: a lot of the issue with the EGT has to do with how you drive. I put the perf/tow in my '05 (* 6spd (no gauges, but they are one the way...), hooked up to my 12,000# goose, did 4,000 miles. I found my fuel economy best (measured with mileage calculations, not on-board overhead computer), at about 1900 RPM = 62mph. Towing a big trailer, I don't put my foot into it, and I am "gentle" - reasonable (and I might add, weighing over 20,000#, safe) speed and operation, and I didn't worry about my EGT's at all. If one winds the @ out of every gear and runs fast, EGT's will be an issue, and they would be with any product. I have the perf/tow set, and have no plans to change it out for stock, or even use the performance program - don't have the need for the added HP - but do appreciate the perf/tow when I am hauling heavy. By the way, with one of my bigger "toys" on my ten ton equipment hauler, I gross (scaled weight) at just under my max GCVWR of 32K, so the (* is "workin' a bit" - I'll be interested when I get my gauges installed as to what I am running for boost and EGT's - but I don't worry about it now, based upon how I drive and my use.
