Hello,
I just returned from a 2600 mile trip with my 04 6 speed (*. I went to Texas to trailer back a farm tractor and the results were great. I was in tow mode and had more than ample power to pull the 6,000 pound load from Texas to Michigan without ever knowing I was towing anything. My MPG going down empty was 23 and coming back loaded was 16-17. This was checked with a calculator and the actual mileage traveled using my odometer and Garmin GPS. My question is that I noticed black smoke coming out of the exhaust while under a load, steep hills, taking off from red lights. Is this normal and is it harmful over the long haul. I’m planning on keeping this truck till it falls apart.

Thanks
Harley

IF it aint smoking....somethings broken!!!!

Smoke means unburnt fuel, but this is neccesary to make power. look at sled pulls and semi trucks. they all smoke like no tommorow. INstall a set of gauges and watch your egts!!
