what do I need to do to tuner

I have an 07, and a buddy of mine has an 04. anything I need to do to the tuner before he plugs it into his truck to try it out?

It depends on wheather the programmer is up to date, if the tuner only displays that it fits 06-07 then you will need to update it first on Superchips.com.

It says that it fit 03-07 when it comes up after you plug it in. does that mean that it is ready to go?

Just make sure that he did return his truck to stock first.
