First I just want to say that I DO understand that there is a reason the tunes specify a certain octane rating to use for that tune due to the ignition timing.

I have run the 93 tune with 93 octane (10% ethanol) just about the whole time I've had my truck. I recently found a gas station near me that has 91 octane ethanol free fuel for the same price as the 93 octane (10% ethanol). I'd like to use this fuel instead of the ethanol blend.

I filled up the other day with this fuel (had 1/4 tank 93 when I filled up) and left the 93 tune in place. I had no issues, no pinging, etc. on the way home.

I know certain things help prevent detonation such as a cooler operating temperature for the engine, a colder heat range spark plug, etc. I'm wondering in your(superchips) opinion, do you think it is at all possible that I could get away running the 91 octane fuel with the 93 tune(maybe with a colder plug and thermostat)? Or is there no Fing way and my knock sensors are retarding timing and I just don't realize it?

Thanks for any input. The main reason I want to run the 93 tune is because I overlaid the stock, 87, 91, and 93 dyno graphs and there is only a small change from the 87 tune to the 91 tune but there is a bigger change from the 91 tune to the 93 tune.

To be honest, your guess it good as mine.

Without guessing:
You can use the DAQ option in the advanced features, and watch knock retard to see if it is pulling timing.

Thanks for the response Ron, I didn't know I could monitor knock (so many options...lol). Is it under "data logging"? I'm not sure what DAQ is...I'll have to look for this later. Thanks.

Thanks.

I monitored it today at lunch (using 91 tune currently). There are so many options and I don't know all the meanings of the abbreviations, but I found one knock retard that gave a signal. Even on the 91 tuen with 91 fuel(some 93 mixed in too, actually) it pulled ~4 deg advance at higher rpms under heavy throttle. I'll see what it does on the 93 tune, if it's the same I'll use it, if it pulls more timing I'll use the 91 tune.

Thanks for the help.
