I recently bought a 1999 Dodge diesel 2500 which had an old performance chip installed. I'd like to use the Superchips Model 3805 flashpaq Tuner on my vehicle, but understand that the old performance chip must be uninstalled first.

My question: the old performance chip came with its own wiring harness which plugs into the motor at various places.Taking the performance chip out leaves these motor connections unplugged to anything. Can I use the Superchips tuner without connecting these loose plugs to anything?

I don't know much about diesels so I don't know the proper terminology to use for the harness; I just want to get the best mileage out of the engine when not towing.

Thanks,

Robert

Yes, you can leave the one unplugged, I believe that it is the data link, which you are not going to use with the tuner.

I neglected to mention that the current chip is D Box from Superchips. I'll try reprogramming this weekend.

Thanks,
Robert

I disconnected and removed the DBox Superchip and, using the Superchips Model 3805 flashpaq Tuner, reconfigured the engine to performance mode. The final readout was that it was now reconfigured and that I was to disconnect the flashpac. Now, the check engine light comes on and stays on.

I don't want to drive it with the check engine light on. Is there something else I missed or need to do?

I left the DBox Superchip in (and connected) and managed to use the falshpaq to program the truck to performance mode. I refilled the tank and will see if that will make a difference in mpg.

There are still other plugs hanging loosely (unplugged) which look as if they were part of the original configuration. I tried plugging them in to the connections with the DBox removed, but still got the Check Engine light.

I needed to correctly reattach the the original plugs in the original configuration. The Superchip works correctly now...
