I have just installed a K&N air filter on a 98 Dodge 24 valve diesel and when towing a 22" trailer I blew the clamp holding the rubber expansion joint on the Turbocharger intercooler inlet duct twice. I am pretty sure the new air filter was not the cause. In the Dodge Service manual it states to torque to 72 in lbs. This seems little more than hand tight. Am I missing something here? Has anyone else had this problem? I have tightened the bolts as tight as I dare but am worried it will happen again. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks for your time. Jim Gordon

You should be fine to tighten them tight.

Their should be no reason that this will hurt anything.

Just make sure that the surface is clean and not oily, and you should be fine.

You should only need to upgrade them if the truck has a upgraded turbo.
