I have an '05 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3. 32'' tires, cold air kit, stock exhaust. The 8th SN digit is B. I tow a 5500 lb. trailer. I'm look for the best fuel milage while towing. I recently purchased the 2865 Flashpac. I usually drive at about 60 mph using cruise control on the highway while towing. In stock configuration I experience down shifting quite frequently on slight hills. Tow mode is a little better but I feel is still too much. I have several questions concering the settings I should use.
1. I realize that hp & torque can equal less throttle pressure from the right foot thus better fuel milage. What can I expect in hp & torque gains?
2. Should I use the custom set up including govenor changes, tire size, and shift points in the power or tow mode? Do you have any suggestion on what shift and govenor settings will work best?
3. Is it better for fuel milage to use the cruise control while towing for milage?
By the way, thanks for helping me with my problem of registering on the forum.

On the 05' (B) motor 5.3L we did not make any real power over stock on the towing tune. It is going to have better throttle sensitivity and better shifting on this level. A better tune for you may be the stock with options tune. On this tune you can run the lower octane fuel (87) and still have the better shifting and throttle feel.
Neither one of these tunes are going to help in mileage while towing.
Making adjustments to the trans options or govenors will not help in fuel mileage. All of the trans options are based on half throttle or more, part throttle transmission shifts are going to stay closer to a stock point. I recommend to start off using the preset trans tuning for the towing, and then make adjustments based on your driving habits.
Do you tow in O/D? This is not good for the transmission to keep shifting in and out of gear. I personally do not use the O/D when towing, under 65mph or when the torque converter is not fully locked.

Ron,
Thank you for your response. I just got back from a 340 mile trip towing my trailer. I hadn't heard from you before I left so I used a tuning from previous advise you had given to a similar question. I used the 'tow' tuning with options changing 1st - 2nd shift +2 and 3rd - 4tth +1 over SC settings and using my tire size of 32". The one thing I have noticed is that the cruise control is set too sensitive and wants to shift down at the slightest speed change so I quit using it. I used OD and tried hard to not change the throttle setting on hills. The truck appeared to not be working as hard as it did before using the SC settings. I got a 2.5 mpg increase over the previous 10 mpg. MY transmission shifts into OD when not climbing even if I'm using the tow &H so I doubt that towing in OD will cause any problems. Is there any way to reset the cruise to a softer setting? I'll try your suggestions on the next trip.
Just what exactly is happening when the shift points are changed? Does changing the shift points raise or lower the speed at which the tranny shifts?
Bob

The tuning will not have any effect or change to the cruise control on the vehicle.
Our shifts changes are based on 1/2 throttle or more, less than 1/2 and the shift points will be stock. 1/2 or more and they will be exteneded based on your choices.
