I just bought the new Superchips Flashpaq for my 2000 Jeep TJ. I wanted it mostly for engine diagnostics but tuning wouldn't really hurt either. Before I plugged it in I updated it and upgraded the unit with the Data Acquisition package as well. After that was completed I plugged it in my Jeep and followed the instructions for the 87 octane tune. It performed the file installation successfully. Then I decided to check the engine diagnostics. I got the error J1850 or CAN not found. All I want to do is check the DAQ 2: Display & Store PID Data for all the sensors and engine data. Please tell me I did something wrong otherwise I Just wasted $360.00.

Welcome to Superchip's Forum!

I would start by plugging the tuner into the Jeep and go to advanced features, try to ID vehicle. Make sure that the ignition is in the RUN position when it prompts you too.

The older Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep diagnostic ports (where we plug the tuner to the truck) have less than perfect connectors. You can plug the tuner in to the port and make sure than none of the Pins push back in the connector.

Ok, I took a closer look at the OBDII port and it looks like one of the connectors is green with oxidation. I cleaned it thoroughly and hooked up the flashpaq again. Once again I got the same error. The flashpaq says its connected and gives me the following information on my Jeep:

ECU is JTEC Plus

ECM Engine PN: 56041658AG

I did have my engine replaced about 6 months ago and they reset the computer to factory settings but I doubt that would have done anything.

Can I replace the OBDII port to a new one?

Can you tune the Jeep?

The DAQ thing is most likely not going to be able to comm with the Jeep due to the age of the computer system.
