Is the 1865 the correct unit for a performance tune on my 2002 GT ? I am installing a spectre cold air intake as well. Thanks

Welcome to Superchip's forum!!

1865 would be the correct tuner for your application.

I just received the 1865 unit and went through the program. Why is the option for octane at 91 ? The standard gas pumps offer 87, 89 and 93. I run 89 in my vehicle and have a 1/2 tank of it right now. I want the performance tune, but do I have to run the 93 all the time for this tune ? The Ford manual said premium gasoline is not reccomended. What do I do ?

We are pin pointing specific octane ratings for each modified tune. The stock program does not have the timing advance that we have in our tuning. The higher timing advance (Power) that the tuner has requires at minimum of 91 or Better to run the engine safely.

I would tune to the 87 tune for the rest of this tank, and then fill up with the higher octane and load the 91 tune.

Can I run 89 octane with the performance (power - 91) tune instead of 93 octane ? What happens if I do ?
illinois goes from 89 - 93 octane. Do I have to fill 1/2 tank 89 with a 1/2 tank of 93 to equal 91.

Detonation, Pinging, knocking.

The tune will not allow anything LESS than 91 octane.

You can try to add 93 to the tank to equal the 91. It is only a guess that it will work.
Listen for rattling under the hood (like marbles in a can)
