I programed my 07 suburban 5.3 with the flashpaq to the "tow" mode. It was filled up with 92 octane and we headed out with our toyhauler. The first climb we came to the truck had a severe "ping". A ping to the point I had to back WAY off the gas and limp it up to a pull off spot. When I pulled off it had a misfire. I had a dead hole on #4 cylinder. Once I got it back to the shop I did a leak down and ended up pullng the head. I had toasted a valve. I replaced the valves in #4 and put the truck back to stock settings. I have not reprogramed the truck to tow yet because I am wanting to know if thios has been a problem before I do it again.

I also want to know if it would be better to use the 87octane setting and still run 92octane. I have read in here that my engine makes more power on the 87tune. We use the truck to tow our toyhauler every other weekend in the summer time, other than that it is the family rig..

I am wondering if there are any superchips that are "mapped" wrong and give you these types pf problems..

Thanks for any info.....

Welcome to Superchip's Forum!!!

Not a common issue what so ever.

IS the truck modified? CAI, exhaust?

What kind of weight are we talking about?

Where do you live?

If you post up the tuners serial number I will verify the tuning.

Ron

It is a tuner # 2815 flashpaq Ser # 1477689

I live in Wash State.
My trailer was loaded to around 4500 lbs.
My engine vin is a 3..
The truck has NO other mods..

I always run 92 octane in the truck. I haven't tuned it to the 87 octane tune yet. Do you think I would have any problems leaving it in the 87tune and running 92 octane and towing?

Thanks.......

No, running 92 on the 87 tune would be fine for towing that weight.
