I have a 2006 Tahoe with a 5.3 engine and factory tow package. I tow a small camper that is well within tow limits. It would be nice to have a little more power though. What sort of performance could I expect from the superchip? How would fuel mileage be affected while towing and when not towing? Would I have to start using a higher octane fuel? I currently use 87. How would it affect the transmission? Thanks.

Welcome to Superchip's forum!!
On the 2006 Tahoes, we have 2 different 5.3L's.
If you can get me the trucks 8th digit in the VIN from the left. I can be specific about gains.
Our towing tune is based on 91 or better octane.

91 perf mode= 18hp and 16.9ftlbs of torque at the wheels
91 tow= 0hp and 0ftlbs over stock
87 octane= 15.9hp and 16.2ftlbs
mileage will not be effected while towing on the tow mode.
If you want to tow on 87 fuel you can run the "stock with options tune"

91 Octane with tow option will not give any performance increase but it will with 87 octane? Making sure I'm reading this right. What can I expect with mileage while not towing...less or more?

On that size of truck it may be up to 10%.

If you did not want to run 91 octane on a tune that makes no extra power, you may want to save the cash and run a tune that will benefit the vehicle with the trans options.
