Greetings, I have a 1950 Cortex that I use on my 2003 Ranger. It is a 4.0L V6, automatic transmission and I have added a K&N CAI, throttle body spacer, Gibson Headers and Flowmaster exhaust. I was wondering if CAI tuning would become available for the Ranger at anytime and or if I could help with testing in any way shape or form.
I was also wondering about the latest update... When I first plug in to update it says that the database failed, although if I hit "enter" and give it a minute it updates just fine. -UPDATE- The above problem only occurs when connecting to USB 3.0, connecting to the standard USB port on the back of my machine appeared to solve that issue.
Last question. When I went to flash my truck the menu had changed, there was a performance, tow, 87 octane, MPG saver and stock. I chose the Performance setting but does that mean I should be putting in 91 octane now?
Let me know of you need more information, Adam

On the Rangers all the tunes are based off of 87 octane.
We tested it with 91 and it made no difference in the performance number.
CAI's are compatiable with the engine type you have. A 3valve V-8 has a closer AFR than the 3.0 and 4.0L engines. So in other words they do not need a specific program to run the tuning.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly, I did have another question... My father has a 2004 Explorer 4.0L V6 and well, due to it's size it is sluggish in every way. He uses it to tow from time to time but the boat is not over 5k lbs (His hitch isn't rated for 5k lbs) Would there be a significant boost to performance on a completely stock system? Would throwing on a K&N filter (instead of the typical Fram) do much to help in the tuning process?
Thank you again, Adam

On the Explorer, the tuning will not help alot with towing on the tow tune. Just firmer shifts and better throttle sensitivity, and tire recalibration. No extra power added to the vehicle.
You could deprogram yours and let him try it on his truck to see if it is worth it.
