I have a 2009 F150 5.4L Lariat 4x4 with a lift (6ā€œ BDS), bigger tires (Toyo MTs 35ā€) and 87 Octane tune. Before the mod the truck did 14/20 mi/gal street/highway and now it does 10/15 mi/gal. In an attempt to isolate the mileage drop I have tried installing Stock w/Options (tire size adj only) but thus far have been unsuccessful – get error E-5E. I have an open case with Superchips and the recommendations to resolve this problem include 1. Update to firmware to v2030B, 2. Perform tune with charger connected in low amperage mode (2 Amps) to ensure OBD II pin-16 voltage level is at least 12.8 volts, 3. Set Viper 5901 Alarm/Remote Start to Valet Mode. None of these have worked yet.

There has been no problems installing Stock, 87 Octane and Mileage XS tunes. It is very curious that the Ford team list of recommendations suggest some factors affect only this specific tune. At this time I’m convinced this is a firmware bug. Any different opinion?

Programmer: CORTEX 1950
SN: 0000000200124874
K&N Drop-in Filter (no CAI)
Corsa dB Performance 24310 Exhaust

Has anyone with a 2009-2010 F150 5.4L experienced problems/errors with the Stock w/Options (tire size adj only) tune? If you have a similar configuration, could you post your mileage?

Thanks

The only thing I can add to this, on the 09-up trucks I have seen that they do not power down on the OFF key cycle quick enough. I recommend to remove the key from the ignition on every OFF cycle.

They will investigate this since you have a case in the system, and get back to you in a few days.

I've noticed that radio and lights stay on for a short time after removing the key. However it looks like the programmer recognizes when the key is in the off and on positions. This is evident during programming when the status bar starts moving once it recognizes the state it's in. Also, if this was the cause it should affect the Stock, 87 Octane and Mileage XS tunes and it doesn't. Unless the Stock w/Options tune is completelly different, then this has to be firmware.

I'll stanby for other recommendations. Superchips has been very prompt in addressing this issue. The purpose of this post is that I believe this is not a unique configuration and if others with the same configuration could replicate this problem, then it would strengthen the case for a firmware bug.

Thanks
