Hi all, I'm from Edmonton AB, and I hope someone can help me reset a flashpaq, or if its even possible. I have a 2002 GMC 2500HD Duramax, and I was hoping to boost my towing power, so when I seen an add on Kijiji for a superchip, I jumped at it. I bought this 2805 FLASHPAQ Tuner from a guy in Swan Hills, AB, on our hollidy travels, last week. He said he had never used it, but when I tried to use it on my truck, it comes up with; Program Original Vehicle to Stock first. I checked the read vehicle and it comes up with a serial number of a 2007 Chevy Silverado. He had the original box and all manuals, so I never though to check it. The serial number on the unit is 1260945. I haven't called the guy back yet (I dought he'd give me my money back) and Swan Hills is several hundred km from my house, so I thought I'd see if there is some other solution. If anyone can help, that would be great.

Welcome to Superchips Forum!!

The only thing we can offer you is the ability to unlock the tuner via our internet update system. $100.

Download the software from Superchips.com
open the software from your desktop of your PC and then register and update. At the end of the update it will offer you the unlock.

Thanks Ron,
I downloaded the unlock for $100.00 this morning and it seemed to work. But now as I try it on my truck it only reads Stock. In the menu, it is called Tuning and not Performance tuning as in the manual. The only options it shows is Tire height and Speed limiter with the stock option. There is no Performance, tow/perf, and tow, did something get lost in the download? It did come up with lost comunication at the end of the download, but when I called your 888 number they said to disconect it and it should be fine. It is pretty much useless as is and I hope I can reload your software to fix it, let me know.

Go back and do another update, and then chose the drop down (enable all power levels)
this will get your all of the levels.

Thanks again Ron,
When I went back to the desktop web icon, it said it was already updated, so I called again and they reset the sin so I could reload. It worked fine now and I selected the tow option, so as previous threads said it should be an additional 34hp and 66 ftlbs and maybe improve gas milage. I'll let you know next month, when we take another trip (without boat ~7000lbs), how it preformed.

Hi Ron,
I had the trany loose 5th and 4th gears in the tow mode last week when returning from holidays in the mountains. It seemed to work fine for the first 300km. I reloaded the stock option and the transmission thankfully reset itself. I had the tow program loaded for a good 200km before our trip so the trany could learn the increases, empty, I could realy notice the increase in power, and I miss it now, but I'm leary in reinstalling it. What could have went wrong? should I have broke it in in the tow/haul position of the trany?

Ray, we do not have any control over the Allison transmission. So you may want to have the trans looked at by a repair shop.

Welcome to Superchip's Forum!

Alex, you should be able to adjust these, unless you have a late 02 truck. Some of the older trucks do not have the ability to adjust in their computers.

Hi Ron,
I had the trany serviced about 8000km before installing the chip (this truck is immaculate and serviced regularly with no issues since new except in 2003 which the dealer fixed). I took the truck back for a Trany check last week and everything checks out, I've been driving it regularly in the stock mode with no issues. I looked up Allisontransmission.com and found this;

Q. Increasing Engine Power - If I install a kit to increase the engine power, what effect will that have on the transmission?
A. The transmission controls have been highly integrated with the LB7 and LLY Duramax diesels and L18 gas engines in GM pickups. Part of this integration is that the TCM has a 'map' of each engine's torque output throughout its operating RPM. The TCM uses 'Shift Energy Management' (SEM). During most range shifts, there is more power available than necessary to maintain acceleration. The unused engine power traditionally goes into slipping clutches, and results in additional heat without adding to vehicle performance. Through engine/transmission communication, SEM is the electronic control process that reduces torque during range upshifts to a level resulting in consistent transmission output torque before and after the shift. The net result is optimized shift quality as well as reduced clutch energy.
Needless to say, when engine torque is increased significantly via various after-market methods, these features are greatly compromised. As with any mechanical system, there is a limit to the level of torque/power that the transmission can handle. Pumping excessive amounts of torque into the transmission will result in excessive heat, gear and bearing loads, and clutch energy absorption.

I don't think I want to risk wrecking the Trany, so if anybody wants a used superchip!

We have been tuning these trucks since 2001 and this is not a common issue.

If you are training the transmission properly (no towing after tuning up to 50 miles) and are not towing in overdrive, that is why I suggested to have it check out.

If you are going through the options area and their are options that do not work, then it would not be available in the trucks computer to change.
